When I make playlists, I tend to get carried away. I just have a massive music library that every song that is minutely appropriate gets added. So this year, although I am late, I wish to share with you my Valentine’s Day playlist for 2008: “LV Heartbreak.” Originally I had 70 songs on the list, but I said, “Much too much.” I pared it down as quickly as I could.

The title is a play on the album, “NE Heartbreak” by New Edition. Only in name though.

Tonight at work, this middle-aged guy tried to holla at this group of three twentysomething girls who came in to work before I left, dressed for a typical Saturday night in Las Vegas. She was trying to get away from him, but he was behaving like a scummy man. I felt so bad for her, I really did. I had to bite back the urge to burst out laughing though, ’cause the guy trying to holla was just behaving like a dumbass. “She’s giving me this look like I should go do something about it!” he started talking loudly to his friends after she gave him the brush off and walked into our store (they all came from the Starbucks next door) with this look on her face. Priceless. I felt like defending her and saying, “Dude, you need to tighten up your game ’cause girls in Vegas are about as expensive as they look.”

And then some.

So that’s why I named it LV Heartbreak, a little nod to my home town.
