So I’ve been slaving away for the last three days to bring you my newest projects. Check ‘em out!

  • That’s My Song!: a clique for people with theme songs.
  • Discotheque: a web directory.
  • Spiral: a plugboard for easy promotion.
  • Three: a weekly MP3 rotation site.

I’m gonna go join some listings to get some promotion going. Wish me luck!

I had to use the default theme for Nothing but Song because I upgraded to 2.5 last night, and it didn’t like my homemade themes. I noticed that the site loading was really sluggishly. It moves a lot faster with the Kubrick theme, but you know me. I had to jazz it up. It’s a bit more like me now. When people start making themes for 2.5 then I’ll prolly use theirs. But it might be awhile and besides, I think this theme’ll do.

Speaking of 2.5, I like it so far. It’s more aesthetically pleasing. The new look for the admin pages of WordPress are really cool. The way to upload images has changed. So did the placement of the categories box. Everything is under four tabs: Write, Manage, Design and Comments. Settings, Plugins, and Users are off to the side and in small text. There’s more, but you should see for yourself. It’ll take some getting used to, that’s for sure.

I took a screenshot of what the dashboard looks like below. It loads faster and is much easier to look through.

I remember reading the teaser post that stated that they were moving up a version for WP that the gravatar code was plugged into WP permanently. So I got rid of my gravatar plugin. So far, no problems with the active plugins I have. Most of them seem to be working just fine.

Don’t forget to backup your database before upgrading. This new fangled WP might not be for you.

Welp, all that drama from that last entry? All cleared up. Plus I don’t even have to go through orientation again since the orientation would have covered everything I already know. I just had to go through processing. What a load off my mind! I start at 8AM tomorrow… in a uniform! OMG. But I’m looking forward to the challenge.

Gah, I’m wide awake. V. bad considering I have to wake up super early tomorrow. I’m a night owl so I don’t do mornings mkay? rofl. I know I shouldn’t have taken a nap, but alas, I couldn’t help it. I got home from my wardrobe fitting, ate some McDonald’s (was craving it for awhile now), mucked around online for a bit and thought, “Well maybe an hour nap wouldn’t hurt.” lolololol. Now I’m wide awake and blogging fer u.

New header. It’s actually a photo I took with my shiny new Nikon D40 in my neighborhood. I took a walk with my nieces last week and decided to test my camera out. I took some really cool photos. I’m reluctant to share most of them as it will show where I live, but enjoy the header. It’s quite spiffy. :)

Plus I added a widget for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. *fangirl scream* I hope I win the contest and if not, it’s all good too. Just doin’ my part to support my fandom. *thumbs up*

I’m thinking of starting a topsites list or website directory, just to drum up some traffic for my site. But I’ve had things like that in the past. It’s hard to start those kind of sites, simply because there are so many just like them from other domains out there. Do you personally join topsites list or directories or exchanges, and do you think they get your website any traffic? I mean, I join them in the hopes that I will get results, but I don’t notice a spike in my stats or anything. I dunno. I’m just thinking out loud.

They released the fall schedule for classes at my school recently, and it doesn’t look very promising. I’m just… blah about the classes. The only other thing to do is wait until more classes open until the semester begins, or create a demand for it amongst ourselves. The way our school is set up you can mass email everyone at school via WebCampus. So students have been mass emailing each other with certain classes and asking if anyone wants/needs to take that class ever since the schedule was released. If you can get at least 12 students interested, they’ll try and get a teacher on board, and open the section for you. And they’re always adding classes after the schedule is released, since our school is so small and all.

Unfortunately none of the classes that have been pimped out by fellow students are ones that I need. At this rate, I won’t graduate from college until I’m 105 years old. But you know what? I don’t care. I’m not in any hurry to finish school. I still haven’t found my “calling” yet. I’m almost done, plus I’m a year and a half behind (a year because I moved from California to Nevada and had to establish residency, and a half because I took this term off to clear my head). What’s another year or so? Well, I’ll keep trying to convince myself of that but it feels like some unreachable goal that I’ll never achieve. I’ve been in school for so long now.

*thinks* Well I have been in school forever, if you want to get technical. I went to junior college straight out of high school and with the exception of the year and a half, I have been a full-time student every semester since). And I don’t want to give up because I have no concrete reason to, other than I’m a lazy monkey rofl.

Ugh. It’s so frustrating!

Since I was all up and at ‘em yesterday, I did my errands, studied at the library, gave my dogs a bath and a walk. My dad said I shouldn’t have gone to the library without my niece who loves to go, but I told him that I didn’t want to wait until she got back from school to go. Besides, I hardly get to go to the library and just chill.

New playlist! With this one, I chose a song that I think fits me and for every letter of my name. If you take the first letter of every song, and unscramble them you will get my full name. But ignore the songs that have “the” and stuff. They don’t count. :) The link to get ‘em is attached to the album art below.

Blue Bell Knoll: A Fairy Story

Unfortunately, due to some paperwork not being filed separating me from my old position in a timely manner, they would not process me for my new position. Basically, I am without a job for the next week. I hope it’s only a week. *crosses fingers*

The thing is, they don’t get their paper checks until Tuesday afternoon. Yet they want me to come in again on Tuesday morning to go through processing again. But what if I show up to processing again, and it shows that I’m still active for my old job? I will have wasted another morning driving down there to get processed for nothing! And even if I were to go through processing tomorrow morning, they have no more orientation classes for my property this week.

I have to call HR tomorrow to confirm whether or not my final paycheck was delivered, which would mean my separation paperwork was filed and processed. Then I can go to processing free and clear.

There’s nothing like corporate America, absolutely nothing. :) I wrote a ranty blog on MySpace, but since this blog is public, I’m not going to rehash what I wrote there.

Now on to better things, shall we?

There’s this story that I have been working on for awhile now, and I feel really good about it. Good enough to share anyways, rofl. It’s basically a children’s story for adults. There are adult themes that would not pass muster in a kids’ book but it has princesses and kingdoms and journeys, like a fairy tale. I was inspired by Rosie Little’s Cautionary Tales for Girlsbook by Danielle Wood. I finally finished it! It was really good. The book is basically short stories about girls for girls by an imaginary girl (the only one who could ever understand girls).

With chapter titles such as “Virginity,” “Beauty,” “Commitment,” and “Destiny”, it’s basically fairy tales for girls “who have their boots as stout as their hearts, and who are prepared to firmly lace them up (boots and hearts both) and step out into the wilds in search of what they desire.” Rosie is a modern day Little Red Riding Hood. It was an easy read, and sassy.

The inspiration for Blue Bell Knoll came when I was at a peculiar place emotionally. I was stressing out from the news that the Reading Room was closing (meaning I would have to go look for another job again), and hadn’t been eating well, if at all, when I first started writing the story. So I was nervous. Being nervous and hungry were a great inspiration. I was completely mad when I wrote it, haha.

Blue Bell Knoll is a song by the Cocteau Twins from the album of the same name. Some of the names in the story are from Cocteau Twins songs. I felt their music was the most ethereal, and fairy-ish sounding to choose a title and names from. I often name my stories after songs. Hence my domain name, nothing but song, haha.

Inspired by my History of Photography class, I decided to “illustrate” the story. I attacked sxc.hu and found suitable pictures. I found a lot more, but I felt that too many photographs would overwhelm the story. So after a process of trial and error, I chose these. Most of them are either naturally black, or I desaturated them. They have also been sharpened in Photoshop. They are linked to their respective photographers from sxc.hu. Wave your cursor over the pictures to read their captions. The story is under the cut!
