LOL, without really thinking it out, I put in my request to burn up some vacation time. My managers approved it, HR approved it, and now Payroll has to approve it.
My sister-in-law had her baby a little sooner than I thought she would, and my dad said I should’ve said that vacation for her baptism. D’oh!
But then I got to thinking: I still have 4 days in my one week of saved up vacation time. I’m gonna make it count.
So if I’ve mentally planned this correctly… that’s a couple of days for M’s baptism. Fly in late the night before the baptism after work or school or whatever, attend the baptism and reception the next day, cram in seeing my friends on the second day (because I can’t go home and NOT see my BFFs), and then fly back that night in time for work the next day.
And then a weekend for the Disneyland vacation that I’ve been planning for almost 2 years with my BFFs in Cali. Hopefully by the time we nail down the dates for Disneyland, my class schedule will most certainly have changed and I can spend 4 days with my friends without having to rush around.
Gah. Life was so much easier when you could just come and go as you please, and weekends were weekends. You didn’t have to worry about work or school commitments.
As for my birthday vacation, I did a bit of research into taking a weekend trip to San Diego, as it was super slow during the first part of my shift at work today. Labor Day weekend and all. I’ve been planning on visiting San Diego for AGES. Corinne and I have been meaning to go since probably the beginning of the year. Just a chance to shrug off that desert dust for a few days and chill. We’ve put it off because Corinne’s changed her job so often, and I wasn’t sure what days I wanted to take off from work because my schedule was always so wonky.
I figure my 25th birthday is a grand occasion to spend out of the city into another one.
I haven’t had a real vacation since probably 2006 when I went back to Cali and did Great America and the Winchester Mystery House. The other trips I’ve made since then and tried to enjoy were crammed into makeshift weekends. What a pain.
I’d rearrange my work schedule, ending up working 7 days straight to get the weekend off, and then sleep in the car ’cause I was so beat. And when I did wake up, I was so cranky so I couldn’t even enjoy it. Then we’d have to leave super early on the second or third day so I could get to work on time, because they weren’t official vacations. But I put my year in at work (which guarantees me a week’s vacation) and I’m gonna use it.
I caught up with Corinne today who said she would like to go. But we’re both pretty broke - starving college students and all - but I think we can swing it. Online deals are sweet. We’re gonna split hotel and gas. Everything else, it’s every girl for herself.
I’m gonna ask around and see if other people wanna go. It’d be pretty sad if it was just me and Corinne. I think a group trip would be fun.
