I’m bringin’ sassyback
Saturday, November 1st, 2008I joined NaBloPoMo, so today is my first entry. Let’s hope I can make it through the whole month!
I spent Halloween with a bunch of Cobras.
Cobra Starship, that is.
I decided to use and abuse Twitter to its full extent. I basically sent a tweet for every song so I would have the set list because I knew I would forget it. I mean, I didn’t use it as thoroughly as the kids who recreated the “War of the Worlds” there, but pretty close.
The only thing I didn’t tweet was the meet and greet. It was in the same room for the Academy Is… meet and greet. The lucky crowd that won the meet and greet got to meet Nate and Ryland. Nate is the drummer and I hadn’t met him the other times the band has come to Vegas. I’ve met Ryland several times. Then Vicky-T came in and did her thing. I fully didn’t tell her about her fanlisting. I failed. Alex and Gabe didn’t show up though. I was looking forward to meeting Gabe ’cause I hadn’t gotten a picture with him the other times he’s been in Vegas than the night the band opened for Panic two years ago.
Now, I always thought that Nate was a jerk ’cause I read rumors online and the other times they’ve come to town he’s not particularly accessible. But towards the end of the M&G, people were hovering around Ryland. So me and my niece C decided to go talk to him ’cause he was all by himself. She wanted to take goofy pictures with him, and she got one. We ended up talking about him being sick, and drummers and how my dad (her grandpa) is a drummer too. He said that drumming for 1 hour in a live show is like running 6 miles, and we all laughed at that. Nate was really easygoing, surprisingly enough. I’m almost positive he looks like Callum Blue with the pronounced jawline, and the five o’clock shadow. If you’re my friend on MySpace, I’ve already uploaded pics. But I take back whatever I’ve said or thought about Nate Novarro in the past. He’s a v. cool dude in my book.
Anyways, here is the tweets I sent…
Waiting for the doors to open for the m&g for cobra. Cruelly ditched by my niece.
Gypped. Didn’t meet gabe!!
Alex suarez jus called me a babe-arian. *swoons* (Backstory: Alex couldn’t make it to the M&G, but he was by the sound boards and talking to fans. I felt like taking my glasses off for the picture with him, but he said “leave ‘em on! You look like a librarian.” And then as we posed, he goes, “a BABE-arian.” I felt like such a nerd though ’cause if only he knew I was contemplating that as a future career!)
Had the nicest convo with Nate. Get well soon!
Sing it loud up first. (Backstory: they were dressed up as Bananas in Pajamas!)
Hit the lights up next. God teenagers smell. (Backstory: I thought I was gonna die smelling kids who either didn’t shower, or drenched themselves in perfume and cologne, *retch*)
Never realized how bright my iPhone is in a darkened venue.
Forever the sickest kids. Crowd hella moved up.
Cobra starship up next, whee!
Cobras are dressed up like cobra kai from karate kid & guess who’s Daniel-San? LOL!! (Answer: Gabe, of course.)
The Church of Hot Addiction
City is At War
Gabe has to do a costume change. LOL. (Backstory: he was complaining about how his pants were falling down for Church and City. He ran offstage and back upstairs to change! So Ryland and Alex were riffing in between to keep us occupied while Gabe changed.)
Send My Love to the Dancefloor (Hey Mr DJ)
Because I’m gabe saporta & I can do that. LOL. (Backstory: That’s what his shirt read!)
Damn You Look Good and I’m Drunk (Scandalous)/The Ballad of Big Poppa & Diamond Girl/It’s Amateur Night at the Appollo Creed! medley
My Moves Are White (White Hot, That Is)
Prostitution is the World’s Oldest Profession (And I, Dear Madame, am a Professional)
Smile for the Paparazzi
Snakes on a Plane (Bring It) with Hollaback Boy breakdown instead of Travis’ rap (Backstory: Before this, Ryland and Gabe gave us a dramatic skit that explained how Ryland’s ninja moves - nothing fancy, his ninja skills are pretty much equal to kicking a guy in the balls - about how he stopped a guy from starting shit around their tour bus or something. Wish I got it on camera. Their impromptu skit looks way better than I could ever explain!)
Guilty Pleasure encore
Overall, it was a great night. Every time I’ve seen Cobra, they’ve never fail to keep the energy up and put on a good show. The opening acts were pretty decent too: Sing It Loud, Hit the Lights (dressed up like the Village People), and Forever the Sickest Kids.
My only complaint was the traffic. Traffic was pretty nasty on the 15 for two reasons: it was Friday and it was Halloween. So I decided to take the 215 all the way through the valley and then get to Jillians in a roundabout kind of way. Traffic going home was bad too. A massive accident by Spring Mountain and 15 southbound. Ick.
Anyways, I hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween.
