Best Mixtape I Have
13 viewsJuly/August 2008

Purpose: Five chicks, five dudes, five bands, five oldies, five covers, and five randoms. Pretty self-explanatory. I wanted a little bit more random mix this time around, so that’s why Muse and Girls Aloud are notably absent from this mix. Muse and Girls Aloud being staples of my mixtapes (as evidenced below).
July 2008

Purpose: This mixtape was a meme from a few months ago that I waited on sharing ’cause it wasn’t ready to be shared. It’s pretty good to jam out to when you need something eclectic to listen to.
June 2008

Purpose: This mixtape is meant to be heard from beginning to end, no shuffling. It took me a month to assemble and finalize, and is probably one of my favourite mixtapes. This mix is definitely suitable for a party.

Smart Playlists
Purpose: For the cool kids that use iTunes, I bet half of them haven’t discovered the beauty that is Smart Playlists. Input a few phrases, and you can have a themed mix based on whatever’s already in your library. This mixtape has a few suggestions to assemble your own.
March 2008

Purpose: If you unscramble the first letters of each of these songs (they are alphabetized in the mix), you will spell my name. Like those poems you put together when you’re a kid, and you come up with a word for each letter of your name. The songs in this mix is how I see myself as a person as of March 2008. It’s biased, but pretty truthful to me.
March 2008

Purpose: This is a takeoff of my previous “Spring Break Jamz” playlist (see below). I just added a few more spring/summer-worthy songs.
February 2008

Purpose: I love making mixtapes for Valentine’s Day. Last year’s V-Day mixtape was demented (see also: Call Me When You’re Desperate ‘Cause I’m Like a Lawyer on Love Potion No. 9). But this one was for those who didn’t want to be alone on Valentine’s Day.
January 2008

Purpose: 2007 was an especially hard year for me, emotionally and financially particularly. But if there was a constant in my life, it was the music I listened to. These songs debuted in 2007 over the course of the year and my favourites made up the mixtape.
October 2007

Purpose: I don’t know about you, but I love to shuffle the music I listen to, so I’ll always be surprised. With Sideways Rain, I was having a bad day and as always, had my iPod on shuffle. The songs that made up the list shuffled in the precise order that made my day a little brighter. It was like all the songs I wanted to listen to came up one after the other. I like when that happens.
September 2007

Purpose: I’d been alive for 24 years, as of 2007. This mixtape was created based on the Billboard Hot 100 list for the past 24 years. I took the #1 song for the week of September 18th, and made the playlist.
June 2007

Purpose: This mixtape captured that sort of breezy feeling you get with summer. Sometimes you wanna dance, sometimes you wanna chill. There’s a song for every summer-like occasion: traveling, having a fling, working, flirting, dancing, chillin’, etc.
April 2007

Purpose: As 2007 was really hard for me, I needed to find music that would lift my soul and get me out of the doldrums. Hence, this mixtape.
May 2007

Purpose: I usually blast my music in my ear as I’m walking to and from my car to work. I work in a casino in Las Vegas (no comment beyond that). So when I listen to this mix, it has the perfect amount of boom to keep out the white noise the casino provides to keep me sane. Or insane, depending on how bad of a day it is.
March 2007

Purpose: My first spring break playlist! Still worth a listen, even when it’s not spring break.
February 2007

Purpose: This was my first foray into mixtapes and I had a lot of fun putting it together. One thing you need to realize is that you can’t shuffle this playlist. It must be heard from beginning to end in order to get the right feeling. It’s a bipolar playlist, basically. One song is lovey-dovey, the next is my lover is a bonehead, etc. It’s perfect.
